Final Project 52 update

1. Blog tutoring with Karen - I'm counting this one done. We never actually met up, but Karen has helped me with numerous blogging questions and I've learned a TON this past year.
2. Gain 20lbs and then lose 50lbs. - I ended up only gaining 10 more pounds for a 40 lb total weight gain, which I finally lost the last two pounds in December.
3. Make and send out Christmas cards  - Just never got around to doing it.
4. Buy a new piece of furniture (baby furniture doesn't count) - Book shelf and desk from IKEA
5. Go rock climbing - Nope
6. Workout 3x per week - My goal here was to make working out a habit and it definitely is. Even if I can't always get to the gym 3 times a week, I either workout at home or go for a mile long walk with the Shye and the baby I nanny.
7. Write 2 blog posts per week - I ended up with 76 posts this year. Not too bad.
8. Print out blog posts and save in a binder as a journal. - Didn't have the money for this one.
9. Make a wedding album. - This one was a bit too big of a project and too expensive. Maybe for our 10 year anniversary?
10. Try one new vegetarian recipe per week. - This one was much harder than I thought it would be. I probably ended up trying out about 15 new recipes, a far cry from 52.
11. Make and wear a new skirt - Nope.
12. Read Book of Mormon cover to cover again - Done
13. Have family photos taken this fall - Rachel's sister did them here.
14. Decorate bathroom - Done
15. Buy 2 new games bought 1 out of 2. Games are expensive, but I really want to have more choices than Monoply and RISK when we invite people over.
16. Host a movie night - Nope
17. Go on an overnight trip somewhere in CA - Brian never had enough time off for us to do this. Blah.
18. Go ziplining - I'm seriously bummed about not doing this. Next year.
19. Learn to shoot a gun - Nope.
20. Scan all of grandmother's genealogy documents - thanks to Brian or it would have never gotten done.
21. Scan all of dad's pictures - nope
22. Run a 5k - For some reason I fancy myself a runner. I need to let it go. I HATE running.
23. Go to the Getty - Nope
24. Make 20 new cards
25. Go one month without sugar - I went 27 days with out it and then cheated on day 28 but then I went an extra week to make up for it. I felt 100 times better without sugar and I'm thinking about doing this again.
26. Get a massage - Twice actually!
27. Make something for Baby Faye - I made her some cute headbands.
28. Arrange a hike - Nope.
29. Do the Clean diet for three weeks - I thought I would need to do this to lose the last bit of baby weight but I didn't. But Brian and I are planning on doing this together soon.
30. Read one non-fiction book - I ended up reading 4.
31. Read Jane Eyre
32. Read To Kill a Mockingbird
33. Read Crime and Punishment
34. Read Anna Karenina
35. Read 100 Years of Solitude
36. Read Lord of the Flies
37. Read On the Road
38. Read Moby Dick
39. Read Ulysses
40. Read Oliver Twist
41. Read the Age of Innocence
42. Read Vanity Fair
43. Invite people over for dinner once a month - We ended up inviting 8/12
44. Plan a date night once a month - We only did this 2/12, we definitely need to work on this one.
45. Watch one movie per week with Brian - We ended up only doing this for the first 3 months of the year. Once Brian was working 3 jobs he didn't have time for it anymore.
46. Completely clean out and detail my car twice this year
47. Get a haircut
48. Buy a new black purse - Does my black Coach diaper bag count?
49. Join the library
50. Send out birthday cards to family - Only sent out 2. I fail.
51. Clean out closet - I did do this, but I need to do it again.
52. Become a mom. - SOOO done!

Overall, I finished 22 out 52. That is 42 percent... a solid F.
Or as Brian put it, "if your gas tank was 42 % full you could go for miles. " :)

And I accomplished a few things that weren't on my list:
Overcoming post-partum depression.
Learning to live on a tight budget.
Finding a nannying job.
Boot camp
A baby shower for my friend Marly. (Rachel! Where are the pictures???)

I'm still honing my goals for next year, I'll post as soon as I'm finished with them.

  1. Haha. I love Brian's comment about a half full gas tank! And you completed the most important goal - becoming a mom! And I'm impressed that you made it a month without sugar - I don't even dare make that goal!

  2. Wow, you really did accomplish a lot in 2011! Like Van Gogh always says, if you reach for the stars...you'll find the moon. :)

You did great this year. You accomplished so many things, and you should be darned proud.
