Man. I need a vacation from my vacation.
After four days of being home Shye and I are still trying to get back to our normal routine. But we had a great time in Indiana and I'm so glad we got to go.
I'm now going to do that annoying blogging thing where I spend the next few posts gushing over how awesome our trip was and post a kajillion pictures. You'll just have power through my friends.
Or just stop reading for the next week or so.

Anyway, so Halloween. In theory I love it, in reality I sort of hate it. Mostly because I'm not creative enough to think of any cute/matching/ironic/original costumes. So I don't even try. But now that I've got a kid there's potential for free candy. Free candy I say! So I dutifully pulled together an Angelina Ballerina costume for Shye, we practiced knocking on doors, and we tried our best to teach her the the value of getting something for nothing.
But little did we known a dark unseen force had other plans for us. You may have heard of him.
Frankenstorm. Or Sandy. I'm not really sure which name he prefers.
Anyway, the weather in Indiana had been perfect leading up to Sandy, it was crisp and cool but not too cold. And then Frankenstorm had go and send us the mother of all cold fronts and plunged us into the 30's with high winds that made it feel even colder. So the Angelina Ballerina costume was out. A flimsy tutu and tights were not going to cut it. Luckily though my mom had sent a cute (and much warmer) Halloween outfit a few weeks previously. Thanks for saving the day mom. And then because of the freezing temps most of the people in my sil's neighborhood headed to indoor trick-or-treating venues. We knocked on door after door in search of our handouts to no avail. Thanks a lot Frankenstorm.

The first pics we have here are from a party we went to the weekend before Halloween.
Shye wasn't as interested in doing the trunk-or-treat as she was in playing on the swing set and the slides. We've gotta teach this girl about priorities.
And here are a few shots from Halloween.
Here we have a hot dog, a cheerleader, and a cheerless leader. Kids these days.
A few neighborhood friends. And Shye and the cheerleader making a run for the fabled free candy.
Overall, I'm sorry to report that Shye got an F in trick-or-treating. She only lasted through all of two houses before having a tantrum. And then a few minutes later she tripped and fell flat on her face and there was no recovering from that so we went home. Thankfully her cousins persevered through the cold, stayed out for another hour, and rounded up a pretty decent candy pile.
Oh well, better luck next year. But Shye is grounded til then.

LOL - I love the top picture where Shye is in the picture.....but off to the side! And then the one by the pumpkin where a single tear is falling.....that's great!

Cute!!! Maybe the tots will be more into it next year. Claire didn't have much luck, either.
ReplyDeleteDane got us a boat load of candy. Halloween has become fun again:-)
ReplyDeleteoh my these photos are way to cute ....love that outfit on Shye. Looks like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least she looked cute. But there must be something wrong with a child who screams about free candy.
