Family of Four

Introducing

Pippi Greystocking Faye
nicknames: Pips, Baby Kitty, and Pipsqueak

About a month ago, I was outside on our front lawn hosing Shye off, which has become something of a nightly tradition around here. Anyway, while we were playing in the water I noticed a car pulling into the driveway of the house across the street, since the house is in foreclosure I just assumed that they were buyers looking at the property. But I thought it was strange that they drove away rather hastily about 10 seconds later without even looking at the house. When I looked back over to the house I saw reason for their speedy getaway. In the driveway they had dumped a can of cat food along with a little kitten with a heart shape on her fur. All I can say is that my opinion of humanity in general took a real nosedive that day.

Now, we are currently living with my mother-in-law who has five, yes five, cats of her own. It goes without saying that this house had already reached it's full feline capacity. So when I went over to check the kitten out, I did NOT intend to bring her home. But the darn thing leaped right into my lap when I knelt down to pet her and then when I went leave she followed me back to our yard, up the front steps, and into the house. The kitten had no problem making herself at home, despite the fact that all the other cats were literally having a group hissy fit.  I was freaking out because, holy crap, I just accidentially brought another cat home and I didn't know what to do. Luckily my mother-in-law was very understanding and gracious when I explained what happened. We decided that we would just keep her until we found her another home. Brian put an ad up on KSL and over the next few weeks I took several calls about her but no one ever actually came to get her. And the longer she stayed with us the more we liked her. So after a month we decided that Pippi was here to stay. Afterall, what difference is just one more cat going to make? :)

These days Pippi is totally, one hundred percent MY cat. She doesn't care about anyone else but she follows me around like a little puppy dog. I sometimes feel like I have two babies now. She would be content to sit in my lap ALL. DAY. LONG. It's sweet, but sometimes it's really annoying. What's even funnier is that Shye just loves her so much and wants to hug and hold her all day long but of course Pippi won't have any of that nonsense. So, Shye loves Pippi, Pippi loves me, I love Shye...it's like a tragic love triangle.

And so that my friends, is the story of how we became a family of four.
