I got a haircut!
A haircut!
I fully realize that this shouldn't as exciting as it is for me. But haircuts are something of a biannual event for me so you'll just have to bear with me. The last time I had my hair cut was three months before Shye was born. I was waaay overdue. My split ends had split ends. And those split ends had split ends. So basically my original split ends were having grandbabies. It was like something out of a hairdresser's nightmare.
I'd been trying (unsucsessfully) to wear the oh so effortlessly chic center part look. But my hair is so long, straight, and flat that I was beginning to think I looked like Cher. Or a hippie. Which ever is worse. Then the Boden catalogue arrived in the mail (addressed to Dame Shawna Faye, thank you every much) and in it there was this picture:
That settled it for me, I needed bangs.
That settled it for me, I needed bangs.
I spent the next month or so hemming and hawing over it. Mainly because I had just spent the past two years trying to grow out the side swept bangs look that I had had for about five years. I wasn't sure if I was ready to commit to full on bangs again. I asked Brian what I should do but he pulled a Switzerland and declared himself neutral on the matter. Finally I just made an appointment with my friend Jamie who is a retired hairdresser to cut my hair. I trusted her enough to not let me look ugly. But still, as I sat in her chair I was trying hard not to freak out. And then just before she made the big cut to my bangs I asked if we could have a moment of silence first. Then I may or may not have shrieked a little as she made the cut.
I know, I'm a wuss. And a drama queen.
the Before (bye-bye center part!) and the After (the blonde Egyptian look)
But I'm happy to report that all my worrying about not liking it was a waste of time. I love it. Jamie cut it exactly the way I wanted and did a fabulous job. I'll definitely have her cut my hair again.
In another year or two.

I love the bangs!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I'm not a fan of bangs at all!! It's part of that whole 80's look that seems to want to make a comeback lately. But that aside, it looks great on you! ;o)
ReplyDeleteNah, 80's bangs are curled and teased sky high. Mine are flat, flat, flat. Not 80's at all.
DeleteIt looks great!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I've gotten so many compliments. I think you should make a hairdressing comeback!
DeleteYou are the third person I know who has gotten bangs in the last 2 months. Looks good!
ReplyDeleteYou're next right? ;)
Deletei think i have a picture of you in the late eighties with bangs and a side pony i will have to find it
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I love the bangs. I also rarely get a professional cut (though I'm thinking it's about time for me, too). I've had bangs my whole life, but the last couple yearns I've let them grow to "long bangs." I think it might be time to go back to real bangs, but I suppose I'll have to see after I get the splint out of my mouth since my facial shape will have changed.
