Of zoos and other such nonsense

So for our first official outing here in Salt Lake City we went to Hogle Zoo. A friend of mine told me they have free admission on the last Wednesday of every month and who are we to turn down anything free? And apparently everyone else in Utah shares my sentiments regarding free stuff. The crowds were insane, it was basically...well, a zoo in there. Haha.

Shye isn't terribly interested in animals yet, with the exception of cats and dogs of course. Girlfriend pitches the biggest fits because I don't let her pet every single dog we see when we are out running errands. But lion, tigers, and bears don't interest her at all. Go figure. She just wanted to run around which stressful because of how crowded it was. So we just kinda did a quick walk through of each animal exhibit and then went for a spin on the carousel.
Not interested in the elephant exhibit.

There's a giraffe behind me, isn't there?

Being generally uncooperative.

More uncooperativeness.

The happiest point of the day: the carousel ride.

On our way home we were sitting in traffic and I happened to glance up at my rear view mirror and saw that the car behind me was coming way too fast. It was the worst feeling I've ever felt. It was only a split second before the car hit me but in that second I managed to worry about what we were going to do if my car was totalled, how was I going to pay for the medical bills if we were injured, and whether or not I had Shye's carseat installed properly. They tell you not to tense up if you are about to be hit but I don't know how you are supposed to relax when there is a car careening towards you. The car struck me, then I hit the car in front of me, and then that car hit the car in front of it. Luckily everyone was ok and the damage was minimal. So far the worst thing seems to be my sore neck. Thank heavens for small blessings.

  1. So glad nobody was seriously hurt in the observance of dangerous animals and incidents with lame drivers! Also, Shye CRACKS ME UP in some of these pictures. Cute post!

  3. Glad everyone was okay. Roan was about the same the first time we went to the zoo.. Good times. They do have a famous drinking fountain there too.

  4. The zoo looks like fun, even if Shye wasn't so into it yet. Sorry about the car accident, but so glad everyone was okay!
