California Girls

I knew from our very first encounter that we weren't meant to be, me and California. Which is funny because everyone that I knew from California insisted that I was going to love it there. They told tales of lush landscaping, beautiful weather year round, and beautiful scenery everywhere. But I remember clearly the day that we drove down to CA in May 2007 to look for an apartment in Orange County and all I could think was "really? this is it?". There was something about the trash lined roads and the brownish colored, smog-filled sky that immediatedly put me off. And anyone who knows me knows that I just barely tolerated my time in California and that I couldn't wait to get out.

BUUUUT....

There were a few things about California that I loved. The beach. The mild summers. The variety of places to eat. And the girls. Or should I say, my girlfriends. I've never had a better group of fun, funny, sweet, girlfriends who could put up with my antics and my slightly innappropriate sense of humor. I miss them so much it makes my heart hurt. So last week when Brian decided to make a quick trip down to California for a film thingy I jumped at the chance so I could see my girlfriends again. The timing of our trip could not have been more perfect because it was book club weekend! Oh how I miss my book club!!

For February's book club we had a semi-formal, sparkling cider, and fondue party. The book was the 5 Languages of Love. We didn't really talk about the book but instead we sat around and guessed each other's love language. (Mine is Words of Affirmation in case you were wondering, so leave me a nice comment okay?) And we had a lingerie exchange. We all bought of cute pair of undies and exchanged them white elephant style. It turns out that animal prints are extremely popular amongst these ladies. Hmmm....

As Brian and I drove home we talked a lot about our hatred for California in general. But we both agreed that as far as friends go, California is the place to be.

  1. I HATED California too, specifically southern Cali. Overpriced, smoggy, crowded (freeways...ugh!), a lot of nasty beaches with a few nice ones peppered along the coastline, overly overly overly expensive, superficial, the list goes on...

friends there, though, I tell ya! they are the only reason i'd ever move back. (but then again the mother-in-law does live there to...DUN DUN DUUUUUUNNNNNN....)

Work those animal prints girl ;)

PS I'm a words of affirmation girl too (tied with touch) OO la la!

Loved this post---cute pictures! What a NOT BORING book club!

  3. We miss you so much around here. I know you're much happier not to be in Cali, but it's just not the same without you. I'm so glad you made the trip!
