Oh Darling, Let's Be Adventurers

"Pack an overnight bag, we are going on an adventure."
Sweeter words have never been spoken. At least not in my book. While other ladies prefer flowers, chocolates, trinkets, and baubles, but me, I just want a ticket to somewhere new.

On Friday afternoon Brian took Shye and I to previously undisclosed location. I thought for sure we were headed for some sort of cabin in the woods but it ended up being a pretty swanky hotel in Downtown Salt Lake.
1. Hotel Monaco
2. Shye, "I want ROOM SERVICE!"
3. 1st attempt at a family vacation photo
4. Shye hanging out.

You know what is kinda sad? I lived here for 3 years before and never drove up to Salt Lake City. I didn't really see the point, everything I needed was in Utah Valley. I had no idea that I was missing out on so much. Downtown Salt Lake has such a cool vibe and it seriously has to be the cleanest downtown area I've ever been to.
1. Brian forgot to bring Shye's stoller
2. Baby on the run in the city.
3. Me and random building.
4. Another attempt at a family photo.

We had dinner at Market Street Grill. It was some very good, albeit very expensive grub. It was definitely not very kid friendly.  It took the entire contents of the diaper bag, my purse, my wallet, Brian's pockets, and 13 sugar packets to keep Shye occupied and quiet so as to not disturb the other diners.
1. The restaurant
2. Brian tries clam strips. Tasty!
3. Shye eats/chokes on some bread
4. Table decor
5. My dinner, fish and chips
6. Shye running around outside the restaurant afterwards.

After dinner we took a carriage ride around Temple Square and then we just walked around downtown.
1. Shye doesn't cooperate for pictures with dad.
2. "To Infinity and Beyond!"
3. Shye preaching the word.
4. She was a bit shy around the horse.
5. And she didn't want to sit still during the carriage ride. Surprise, surprise.
6. Petting our ride.
7. Shye gives her first street performance just outside City Creek mall.
8. She is totally in her element.
9. She takes it very seriously.

At some point during this excursion Shye decided to commit suicide and tried to run out into the street.
I present to you, The Tantrum.
1. The Board (she goes stiff as a board)
2.  The Throw Down (she throws herself down)
3.  The Dead Fish (she goes dead...like a fish)
4. The Kicker (she kicks like an Olympic swimmer)

On Saturday morning we were lazy and stayed in bed til 10am. Except for the part where Shye woke up from 6am - 7:30. But I let Brian handle that.

1. Shye found a friend.
2 & 3. The hotel's giraffe print robes, who wore it better?
4. Our breakfast in bed. At 11:30am. Cuz that's how we roll.

It was a quick excursion but it was fun. Also it made us realize that we really do need to get out more, that way next time things like room service and giraffe robes won't seem like such a novelty.

  1. I am with you on the surprise. One of the best things MacGyver every surprised me with was a weekend trip to NY.

Looks like a blast! That tantrum looks familiar!

  5. What a fun surprise. I love downtown. It is so pretty! My favorite place to eat there is The Judge Cafe. Only open until 3 pm, but it is THE BEST brownies EVER EVER! Seriously. Every time I go back to visit Utah I always always always go there and get 2 brownies, one to eat then, and one for the road. I don't think I can truly express how awesome that place is. Great food and amazing brownies :)
