An Ode to Autumn

I love fall. Well, I'm more like obsessed with it actually.

You see, I was deprived as a child of these things called seasons. In Tucson there is only one season: FAAREAKIN HOT which is only interrupted by a few weeks of: not-so-hot.

But still, I liked to pretend that I lived in an alternate reality. Every year on the 23rd of September I would break out my collection of sweaters, scarves, and tights. Not to worry, I was only hospitalized for heat stroke once. Somewhere in my blonde-addled brain I believed that if I wore fall attire that Mother Nature would admire my sense of style and humor me with some cooler temperatures. Well apparently, Mother Nature never got the September issue and my dreams of literally changing the world through fashion were foiled.

So I moved to Utah. And in Utah there are basically six months of winter, five months of summer, and two weeks each of fall and spring. But STILL! TWO WHOLE WEEKS!!!! My first fall in Utah I felt like a Star Wars fanatic who just tapped into the mythical Force. Fall was really real! Sometime in late September I took a drive up the canyon and HOLY SMOKES! THE LEAVES WERE CHANGING COLORS!!! I pulled over a couple times to take pictures and I couldn't help jumping around and squealing "Look at all the colors!" to other people who had also stopped to snap a few pictures... and probably wondered what institution I had escaped from. I think I even hugged a tree...but don't read too much into that one.

My point is that I love everything about fall. The colors, the fashion, the cooler temperatures, the fashion, the holidays, the fashion, and ummm....oh yeah, I love fall fashion. Sweaters, scarves, hats, boots, tweed, tights, corduroy, I love it all. Whenever I do a closet purge the only thing I never touch is my mountain of fall clothes. And after Christmas and my birthday, my other most favorite day of the year is the day that I break out my fall clothes.

But this year is different. I'm exactly 6lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight. I'm busting my butt at the gym and watching my diet... but the closer I get to my goal weight the slower it is coming off. I'm guessing that it will take me about another 8 weeks to lose that last bit of weight. So I'm not worried about the weight but I am worried about what I'm supposed to wear until then. That extra 6lbs means that I can fit into most of my clothes but they are just a leeettle too tight. But fall officially starts on Friday. And not to be dramatic or anything but seriously, I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!

And so I leave you with some pictures of some new fall clothes that would totally hold me over until I lose the rest of this weight. Feel free to donate. :)

Happy Fall everyone!

  4. I love all of the cute clothes! Last year at about this time we took a trip to Utah and it really helped with my need for Fall. This year we are leaving for Miami so I may need to escape to Arrowhead for a day when we get back.

  5. Shawna I have to tell you I think you look hot and I love that you are bouncing back into your prepreggo clothes. It is an inspiration and I hope I can do it too. Will you be my fitness coach?
Plus Fall is the most awesome season of the year. This post is great.

  6. I love autumn too. A little more this year than usual, which is really weird.

I never switch to a Fall wardrobe though. I always want to, but I never really do. Maybe this time...
